Brooklyn
Last summer a mom contacted me through our mutual friend, Ginna, to make a quilt for her daughter, "Brooklyn" who had just graduated high school and was headed off to Texas Tech. She had a couple of request and one was to use a pillow case in the mix. It was a challenge because it made 2 huge blocks, but I managed to add both sides. I ended up with kind of a gap somewhere in the middle and was struggling to piece the blocks together without leaving a big blank space, when I had an epiphany. I cut out a block from one of the t-shirts and sewed a smaller block from a NYC t-shirt that said "Brooklyn" in the upper left corner. Not only did the block fill in the gap, but Brooklyn's family was able to use the block to write a short note to her. I used a solid black for border and sashing, and of course, the backing is a red tonal flannel. Super fun project! Thanks for the referral, Ginna!
